St. Benedict Grup discussion talking about reduce plastic bag at home |
Sekadau, dermagafm.com - Ecological Conversion is the main theme of the Indonesian Conference of Church Commission for Socio-economic Development which is the subject of discusion with all Indonesian Catholic in the framework of Lent 2025.
The action of the Catholic in Sekadau Parish, especially the neighborhood Saint Benedict, which is the result of discusion or sharing together, “agree not to bring or receive plastic bag from the market to back homes of neighborhood Saint Benedict” and this event was held on Monday, March 17, 2025.
“Instead, every women or men who go for shopping, is expected to prepare a container or shopping bag from home,” said neigborhood Chairman Yohanes Bosko.
This experiences sharing related to the theme of ecology repentance was guided by the Catholic religious facilitator, Nico, taking the reading of the Old Testament that is Genesis chapter 1 verses 1 to 28 and this was attended et lewat 40 participant of the neighborhood Saint Benedict.
In sharing experiences based on the book of Genesis, all agreed that what was experienced by each of the people in this discussion was indeed true if in the village in ancient times everything was almost completely created by God because God created everything really well.
However, today some places have changed, especially with the presence of illegal logging, PETI (illegal mining) which also destroys the integrity of God's creation where people can no longer directly drink water from the river, as well as the occurrence of floods that are different from in recent decades.This was conveyed by Mrs. Alusia, Mrs. Lusia Yuni, Mr. Rekon, David, Nippo and others who share their experiences and thoughts for this topic.
“We agreed from this evening to make a real action in sharing experiences because we are concerned about the situation around us and as part of ecological repentance in order to restore the integrity of God's creation and this real action has been agreed together not to bring plastic bags from the market to our house and will use containers or other in order to reduce the presence of plastic,” they said.
They hope this action could be carried out together with other Catholic in Sekadau Parish in the framework of the ehcological conversion pilgrimage of hope in 2025.
It is to be noted that the sharing of spiritual experiences will be carried out five times in a row for the next 4 weeks with different themes and all will be followed up with concrete actions even though they are small but can be useful for Catholic families in particular and the Sekadau community in general.
